Second week in Camp Davis

This is another pretty intense week. A lot of activities with a lot of fun, and a lot of new experiences too. :)

So, to make things easier, I'm going to do this post in day by day format:

Monday - Went for an overnight camping trip in the Pindale area near a national forest. The main goal of this trip was to map out the glacial and geological features of Fremont Lake and its perimeter using a cool tablet PC. The military-level-technology PC was equipped with GPS system that accurately marked out our location on the map in real time. Got to learn a lot about glacial advances and features in that project. The professors and GSIs cooked a pretty decent dinner that night. Played some cards by the fire before sleeping.

Tuesday - Did more of the mapping, and went back to Camp Davis by dinner. Went out to town to watch the fireworks. It was awesome, far more longer than impressive than any of the fireworks that I have seen so far (certainly beats the New York Times Square lousy fireworks). It lasted for like half an hour before ending in a superb finale. My friends got pretty drunk and rowdy that night on our way back...(i'm still sober though..). Hanged out in Johnson Hall for a while, played some foosball and pool before sleeping.

Wednesday - Stayed in Camp Davis to do the drawing of map and project writeup. The beef steak for dinner was simply awesome…it was like one foot in diameter (no joke), and the tenderness was just perfect. It was the best beef I have ever tasted in my life, and it totally changed my view on beef steaks..Went out to town to watch a rodeo show at night. The show cost 8 bucks, and it's a total letdown. Again, we were pretty loud on our way home...

Thursday - Did some soil digging in two different ecology system examining the soil profile. Also, we had to mark out a 15 by 15 plot find out the population of different plant species. F@#k Utah Honeysuckle (Lonicera utahensis)...there were like 700 of them in my plot. Got back camp and play some wiffleball. Our class won a wiffleball game although I totally sucked in the game.

Friday - Hiked the Creampuff Mtn (el. 9600+ft). It was so far the toughest hike of all. The trail was long and steep, but not as dangerous as the Garnett Canyon hike IMO. There was a book on the peak, in which I proudly inscribe my name and comments in it. Didn't forget to draw a Malaysian flag in it....hahahaha. Got to play two more wiffleball games before dinner. Again, our class was the champion of the tournament, but lost to the Professors in a close game (5-4).

Saturday - Did some studying before the quiz in the morning, and worked on the soil project for the rest of the day. Went out to town to catch a movie (Superman Returns). It was pretty sweet, but not as interesting as I expected it to be (most of my friend though it sucked big time though). Headed to the Brewery after the movie to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Can’t get myself too drunk, as I would be driving the others home that day. Got back at 1.30am, played some ping pong and chilled out before going to bed.

Sunday - Woke up like 10 in the morning, went to a bar to watch the world cup. It was an amazing game, with some cool actions in it (haha, zizu's headbutt especially). Glad that Italy won. Went to the Taggart Lake in the Teton's National Park after the game. Managed to get back in time for a Pizza dinner. Writing blog now!
